Castellammare di Stabia is one of the most populated towns of Campania and it is very famous thanks to the thermal baths and the archaeological excavations of Stabiae.

Thermal baths of Castellammare di Stabia include 28 different kinds of mineral water: sulphurous water, calcic water, etc.

The ancient town of Stabiae was an important thermal bath used by Roman noblemen and was buried by the eruption of the Vesuvius in 79 a. C..

The excavations of Stabiae are not as famous as those of Pompeii and Ercolano, but they are very interesting too, thanks to the finding of three elegant villas and thermal baths.

The castle the city takes its name from was erected in around the 9th century on a hill commanding the southern side of the Gulf of Naples. It was restored during the reign of Frederick II of Hohenstaufen and enlarged by King Charles I of Anjou.

Castellammare was the hometown of Gabriele Capone, father of Al Capone.
